RE:             AIKINS AWARD 2011
________________________________________

We are very delighted to announce that Dr. Jodi Lofchy has been chosen to receive the 2011 Aikins Award. Dr. Lofchy was selected as a winner in the Course/Program Development category for her “longstanding passion and dedication to the undergraduate program in psychiatry.” The Aikins committee was most impressed with her “vision, passion and commitment” and continuously developing and improving an “inspired” psychiatry curriculum. She is an “outstanding role model and exceptional educator.”

The W.T. Aikins Award is the most prestigious Faculty award for commitment to and excellence in undergraduate medical education. Winners of this award are selected from nominees identified in a Faculty‐wide process. The criteria for the awards are extremely rigorous, and each nomination requires extensive support from both peers and students. Documentation, student evaluation and peer evaluation are carefully reviewed for each nominee by a panel of Faculty and students. The award will be presented at the Faculty of Medicines’ Educational Achievement Event on April 26, 2011 and at the Pre‐Convocation ceremony on June 1, 2011. We are especially proud of this great achievement as no one in Psychiatry has received a Faculty of Medicine Undergraduate award of any kind since 1997. Dr. Lofchy has excelled in undergraduate education for the last decade and leaves our department in a wonderful place after much work towards program development and coordination. On behalf of everyone in the Department of Psychiatry congratulations to Jodi on this very incredible achievement.

We encourage faculty to come out and celebrate Jodi’s achievement at the Faculty of Medicine Educational Achievement Event. In addition to honouring awardees and educators, this event has a keynote education presentation and a lovely poster reception representing the education scholarship of Education Development Fund and CE grant awardees.
